About AURELIS

Let Excellence Be Seen. Let Design Create Lasting Impact.

Founded in 2012, AURELIS is an independent international association dedicated to advancing design excellence, innovation and meaningful impact. Professional evaluation forms the foundation of our work, supported by design research, exhibitions, archives and international collaboration.

More Than Recognition

AURELIS regards professional recognition not as the conclusion of a design journey, but as the beginning of wider visibility, industry engagement and lasting influence. Through rigorous, transparent and multidisciplinary evaluation, we identify exceptional work and connect designers, educators, researchers, businesses, cultural institutions and professional organisations worldwide.

AURELIS is more than an award platform. It is an international design community built around professional evaluation, knowledge, connection and long-term influence.

The Meaning of AURELIS

The name AURELIS brings together three ideas. Each reflects a distinct part of the Association’s professional identity.

Together, these ideas define our mission: to identify and connect global design excellence through independent professional judgment—allowing exceptional work to be seen and enabling design to create lasting impact.

  • Aureus — gold, excellence and enduring value
  • Analysis — professional evaluation, research and critical judgment
  • Elite — outstanding work and talent recognised through rigorous standards

Excellence with Lasting Impact

Our work is shaped by Excellence, Innovation, Impact, Global connection and Trust. We believe the value of design lies not only in form and function, but also in how it responds to real needs, advances industry, improves relationships between people and the environment, and leaves a positive, lasting contribution to the future.

  • Excellence · Professional quality
  • Innovation · New thinking
  • Impact · Meaningful outcomes
  • Global · International connection
  • Trust · Credible recognition

Independent Evaluation & Professional Standards

AURELIS develops an evaluation system centred on the value of the work and grounded in professional judgement. Evaluation considers original thinking, form and function, technical execution, social responsibility, sustainability and lasting impact—not simply reputation, commercial scale or market attention.

Through multidisciplinary jury composition, conflict-of-interest recusal, published evaluation dimensions and documented decisions, the Association works to strengthen independence, transparency and professional credibility. Our purpose is not to create more awards, but to establish shared standards capable of identifying genuinely outstanding design.

Global Design Connection

AURELIS connects designers, educators, researchers, businesses and institutions across countries, cultures and professional disciplines, creating opportunities for exchange across regions, fields and industries.

Through international evaluation, online exhibitions, professional dialogue, project archives and collaborative programmes, valuable design can move beyond geographic and language barriers into wider professional networks. We believe global design should not mean stylistic uniformity, but genuine exchange between different experiences, cultures and solutions.

Design Research & Knowledge Exchange

AURELIS not only presents design outcomes, but also examines the methods, questions and industry value behind them. Case studies, trend observation, jury reports, thematic articles, professional interviews and annual publications turn knowledge accumulated through evaluation into content the profession can use over time.

We aim to build a continuously developing design knowledge archive, so that recognised work is not only displayed but also understood, studied and cited—supporting design education, industry innovation and future practice.

Responsible Innovation & Lasting Impact

AURELIS considers whether design genuinely responds to human needs, industry challenges and social responsibility. We encourage practices that reduce resource waste, improve experience, advance inclusion, support cultural understanding and create lasting public value.

Short-term visual attention is not the only measure of design value. We ask whether a work can continue to perform over time. Recognition is only the beginning; the real influence a design creates for industry, society, the environment and the future is the outcome that matters.
